Club Appreciation Night a Huge Success

[Show thumbnails] Free food, soccer and a dunk tank; what more could you ask for on a Wednesday night. Over 300 members and their families came out to Big Dry Creek last night to celebrate the return to fall soccer and to showcase the clubs appreciation towards its members. The main event of the evening was the coaches vs. players game but there was plenty of ancillary entertainment to talk about. The night kicked off with the grill being fired up by coach Dewayne Brown (U12 and U13 Boys Cosmos) and coach Jon Jackson (U14 Girls Cosmos and U15 Girls Copa) taking his turn in the dunk tank. As the water splashed and the grill began to smoke, players from the U17 Girls Samba and Cosmos began to show up for their game against the coaches. The game kicked off at 6:00 PM with the U17 Girls Samba taking on the coaches team. Despite the coaches looking like they were winded walking to their bench, the coaches started off brightly with a goal from Levi Boggess who finished off a cross with a good volley. The goals kept flowing from the coaches team as they went up 4-0 on the Samba squad. Samba fought back though to nab 2 goals and could’ve had a 3rd if it wasn’t for the heroics of Keenan Heyde (U10 Boys Copa) in goal. It was a little too late for the Samba though as the coaches came away from the first half with a victory. The second half brought new opposition for the coaches as the U17 Girls Cosmos took the field. The... read more

The start of the fall soccer season is upon us! To help celebrate the beginning of the season for all Westminster Soccer teams, our club is hosting its second annual Summertime Blues Buster. The WAFC Foundation serves as the the charitable arm of our club and is primarily responsible for the Foundation Awards Program which makes sure that every child has the opportunity to play regardless of economic status. We have plenty of fun events in store for all of our members including the Coaches vs. Players game, dunk tank, foot golf and much more. For more information, please visit our Summertime Blues Buster page and come help us shake off those Summertime Blues and get back to... read more

U.S. Women’s National Team: World Cup Champions!

World Cup Champions!  The goal is complete. On Sunday, the United States Women’s Soccer team won their 3rd World Cup Trophy in astounding fashion as they took down Japan 5-2. The packed crowd at Lodo’s Westminster witnessed one of the most frantic and amazing 15 minutes of soccer you will ever see on a World Cup stage. Within the first quarter of an hour, the United States had remarkably gone 4-0 up on the Japanese side that beat them in the World Cup 4 years earlier. 3 of those goals came off the foot of Carli Lloyd who propelled herself with that finals performance to the Golden Ball (Tournament MVP) and tied for the Golden Boot (Most Goals). The game and the tournament will ultimately go down in U.S. Soccer history and Westminster AFC was happy to share the experience with our members throughout the tournament. Special thanks to all our members and Lodo’s Westminster for supporting our cause to help promote the game of soccer and supporting our national team. Thanks and we’ll see you in 4 years. Repeat... read more
